Positive Displacement Pumps

Positive displacement pumps eject a fixed amount of fluid into the hydraulic system per revolution of the pump shaft.

Positive displacement pumps are self-priming and pump against very high pressures.

Therefore, such pumps are capable of overcoming the pressure resulting from mechanical loads on the system as well as the resistance of flow due to friction.

Good to know: The volumetric capacity of positive displacement pumps is low and positive displacement pumping units must always be protected by relief valves to prevent damage to the pump or system.
